Control settings to limit the retention of your ChatGPT data
Three settings allow you to reduce the footprint of your data in OpenAI’s systems. None retroactively delete what has already been processed, but they limit what will be collected in the future.
The first is disabling model training in the privacy settings. The second is disabling custom memory. The third is using temporary chat, which creates conversations not recorded in the history and not used for training.
Temporary chat remains the most protective mechanism for occasional use. The data from these sessions is not retained in the account history, although it may temporarily pass through OpenAI’s servers for processing the request.
